Making the Illustrative Master Plan

Week of July 22-27
Alright, I can’t be scared anymore….I just need to start this illustrative master plan! In my planting design studio this last semester, we were so focused on site-planning our projects that we never got to the details of how to go about drawing up a planting plan. They were always rushed and low on the priority list for our projects. But this internship offered me a great opportunity to take my time and do one right. I was just a challenge to decide how to represent the understory and tree layer without muddying up the drawing. It took me three full days, but I finished it! It would have been much quicker, but I decided to use a mixture of colored pencils, watercolor color pencils, and markers. I liked experimenting with the media and could do it faster next time.
And here she is!

I had some company in Casita 0 (our intern hangout but was has become my studio) while I worked on this. Lucas was recording some music in there, and Matt, a visiting butterfly researcher came in to play some guitar. He’s about to release a CD so who knows, maybe I got to meet the next rock-star!
For the rest of week, I placed some stakes for where the trees will be installed by the roadway, and as my weekly ritual, went for my Thursday run up to the cheese factory and got "El Combinado" that had strawberry, vanilla, and lime.
On Sunday, Cody, Cam, and I headed up to the Santa Elena Reserve. Will blog about that soon!
